Milk substitute for piglets.
The first days of a piglet's affect crucially its entire deveolpment and growth, since colostrum contains irreplaceable antibodies. Thus, a poor start implies a poor end, due to an unsatisfactory body weight at slaughter age. The use of milk substitutes during lactation ensures a good and homogenÔus start for all littermates. Moreover, milk substitutes help in the survival of the litter in cases of sow's death or in the equivalense of the litter if the sow does not produce adequate quantity and/or quality of milk or lactates many piglets. Milk substitutes, when used during the first two weeks after weaning, preserve piglets' supply in liquids and facilitate transition in dry feed.
